New driver provisions
If you have recently passed your test or are still a new
driver, the last thing that you want to do is to lose your
licence!
Under the New Drivers Act
2005, your driving licence will be revoked by the DVLA if you build
up six or more penalty points within two years of passing your
first driving test. You will then need to reapply for your
provisional licence and resit your theory and practical driving
tests. That's twice the hassle and expense all over again!
Any penalty points you gained before passing your first driving
test are taken into account. As an example, if 3 penalty points are
endorsed on your provisional licence, they will show on your full
licence when you have passed your test. If you then incur any
further penalty points during the first two years of driving taking
you up to six or more, your licence will be revoked under the New
Drivers Act.

However, having six or more penalty points endorsed upon your
provisional licence does not mean your licence will be revoked
straight after you pass your test. It will be any further points
gained after passing your test which takes your total to six or
more which will result in your licence being revoked.
