Totting up 12 points
Totting up occurs when a driver accrues 12 points or more
within a three year period.
As a result of the
increase in speed cameras and the number of offences that incur
penalty points it is easier than ever to accrue 12 points. The
recommended mandatory period of disqualification for a totting up
ban is 6 months. It is important to note that the Court will
consider the points that were valid at the time the last offence
occurred. Therefore, even if points have expired between the
offence being committed and the Court hearing there is still a risk
of a totting up ban.

exceptional hardship that can be put forward on your behalf and if
proved, the Court will consider whether to disqualify for a period
at their discretion, or not at all. There may also be alternative
