Kent Police have confirmed that they will be using virtual court
technology to process motorists caught drink-driving. They
trialled the system last year as part of their Christmas
drink-drive campaign and successfully used them in 17 cases, saving
much police time.
The technology uses video links between police stations and
magistrates' courts and means that instead of the motorist being
charged and then bailed to appear at court in several weeks
they can appear before magistrates on the same day. If they
plead guilty drivers can be banned immediately and their
licence taken away.
