Transport Secretary, Philip Hammond, will present MPs with a
written statement on Wednesday detailing the new government
strategy to make Britain's roads safer.
Drivers, who undertake, cut up other motorists or who
tail-gate could be handed a fixed penalty notice
on-the-spot instead of being dealt with at court. It
has been reported that the fine could be £100.
The strategy, likely to be introduced in
2012, will also include a crackdown on drug-driving and
close the loopholes that allow drivers to avoid drink
driving convictions.
A different approach will also be taken to differentiate
between reckless drivers and those who make a genuine mistake, with
a wide range of retraining and courses available for those
committing lesser offences.
